Al Shabab beat Al Jazira to take leadership
Dubai-based Al Shabab moved one step forward to top the standings of Group "B" with 18 points after beating Al Jazira 2-1 in the last match of the preliminary stage of the Etisalat Cup Competition played tonight at Maktoum Bin Rashid Stadium. Mahmood Qassim scored the first goal only six minutes into the game to give his side Al Shabab an early lead and his teammate Jociel Ferreira added the second four minutes before the break to finish the first session with a 2-0 win for the home team. The visiting team pulled one back through Mohamed Salem in the 58th minute to reduce the deficit but they failed to level the score.
On the other hand the home squad Al Wasl lost at home to Sharjah by a solitary goal to slip to the 2nd place with 16 points. Brazilian player Marcelo Oliveira scored the lone goal of the match in the 30th minute. Tariq Hassan of Al Wasl was shown the red card in the 77th minute for his team to finish the match with ten players.
Al Ahli and Kalba were tied to a 1-1 draw in the third match of the day. Kalba finished their competition campaign in 4th position with 12 points whilst Al Ahli are at the bottom of the table with 7 points. Al Ahli's defender Salmeen Khamis netted the first goal of the game only 11 minutes from the word go and Jamal Gharib leveled the score in the 74th minute.
Al Ain team, leaders of Group "A" , will face Al Wasl who took 2nd spot in Group "B" in the semifinal match whilst Al Shabab leaders of Group "B" will meet Al Wahda, the runners-up in Group "A". The two games will be played in knock -out bases
