Al Shabab, Al Wasl, Al Dhaid and Emirates proceed to quarterfinal

Dubai-based Al Shabab have joined the top 8 teams and qualified to the quarterfinals of the President's Cup Competition following their 2-0 deserved victory over Bani Yas in the 16th stage match played tonight at Khalifa Stadium in Al Alin. The two teams demonstrated a balanced display in the first session which saw both of them creating a few number of chances, but failed to score.

The winners exerted more efforts after the break giving their opponents hard time and making dangerous raids from the right and left flanks. Their continuous attempts were soon paid dividends when Essa Obaid netted their first goal in the 60th minute. The Brazilian player Julio Cesar came to make it 2-0 seven minutes later with a perfect header.

In the second match played at the same venue, Al Wasl maintained a hard-fought win over the Armed Forces squad beating them with a lone goal netted by Rashid Essa with a header four minutes from time. The winners will meet their city rivals Al Ahli in the next stage on March 5.

In the third game of the night, Al Dhaid eliminated Diba Al Fujairah after defeating them 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Al Dhaid will face Al Shabab in the quarterfinals on March 6.

Defending champions Emirates trounced Al Orooba with a 4-1 win at Sharjah home pitch and they are to face Al Jazira in the quarterfinal.
