Al Wahda maintain a hard-fought win over Dubai
Al Wahda maintained a hard fought 3-2 victory over Dubai in their Etisalat Cup 5th round match played tonight at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi to raise their balance to 6 points that put them one step forward in 5th position while Dubai are staying in 4th place on goal difference with the same balance.
Haitham Atiq put Al Wahda into the lead 15 minutes from the start off Brazilian Hugo's cross ball and Hassan Abdul Rahman of Dubai leveled the score five minutes later off a penalty kick. Bayano squandered a lovely chance for Al Wahda in the 31st minute when he received a pass from his countryman Hugo but his shot missed the open net. Dubai took the lead one minute before the break via Abu Bakr Kamara when he received a cross from Hassan Mohammad to end the first session with a 2-1 win for the visiting team.
Brazilian Hugo brought the game back to the golden square when he netted the equalizer 8 minutes after the interval, but he failed later to benefit from Mahmoud Khamis' cross ball to lose a sitter in the 65th minute . Mahmoud Khamis compensated for the lost opportunity and dashed Dubai's hopes with a strong shot scoring the winner in the 70th minute, securing a 3-2 victory for Al Wahda.
The match referee Ibrahim Mohammad gave marching orders to Dubai's player Ismail Ahmed after collecting his second yellow card for his team to finish the injury time with ten players.
Al Ahli win the derby
In the second match played this evening, Al Ahli led by their new Austrian coach Quique, beat Al Nasr 3-2 to raise their tally to 10 points the same that of Ajman to become one of the competing teams in Group "B". Al Nasr's balance was frozen at 4 points to stay in 4th position provisionally before Bani Yas-Sharjah match which will be held tonight at the end of the 5th round.
