Bani Yas draw 1-1 in first leg of GCC 28 Final

Bani Yas recorded a 1-1 draw with Al Khor in the first leg of the Gulf Clubs Championship 28 Final on Friday night in Doha, Qatar, to put the UAE club in a positive position ahead of next week’s second leg at the Bani Yas Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The return fixture will take place next Thursday 23rd May as Bani Yas go in search of continental silverware.

The hosts Al Khor got off to a good start in the game, scoring through Brazilian Bruno Mineiro after just ten minutes from a cross by his compatriot Julio Cesar. Bani Yas composed themselves after conceding and began to gain a foothold on the game, but they were unable to find a breakthrough in the first period of play and the half-time score remained 1-0 to Al Khor.

In the second half Al Khor missed several good chances, but with Bani Yas’ defense and goalkeeper Mohammad Ghuloom standing firm, the home side were unable to double their advantage. In the 70th minute Bani Yas’ hard work paid off as they got back into the game when Haboush Saleh’s blocked shot was turned in on the rebound by Senegalese striker Andre Senghor, putting the Sky Blues back on level terms. Three minutes later Al Khor were reduced to ten men when the goalscorer Mineiro was shown a second yellow card, and after 90 minutes the referee called time on a 1-1 draw.
