Al Wasl outclass Al Jazira 3-2 to take second position
Al Wasl came back to Dubai with three valuable points following their deserved 3-2 victory over hosts Al Jazira in the Etisalat Cup third round encounter played this evening at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The winners stepped forward taking second spot with six points on goal difference to Al Dhafra who are sitting on top of Group “B” while Al Jazira dropped to 3rd spot with three points the same that of Bani Yas.
The two teams started the game with strong display with the visitors looked virtually the better side as the movements of their players Faisal Khalil, Al Faro from Uruguay and Argentinean Donda have threatened the hosts goal. Al Faro was the first to find the back of the net when he scored the opener in the 15th minute with a left footer and Al Jazira’s Brazilian front liner Ricardo Oliveira leveled the score off a penalty kick four minutes later. Mariano Donda made it 2-1 in the 28th minute capitalizing on defender Juma’a Abdullah’s blunder who failed to clear the ball away. Al Faro was almost to add his second goal but Al Zazira’s keeper Al Shaibani succeeded in deflecting the ball to a corner six minutes before half time.
Both squads made some positive work in the beginning of the second session trying to add more goals, but nothing changed despite of the substitutions made by the two coaches.
As the game was heading for a 2-1 win for Al Wasl, Ibrahima Diaky leveled the result when he received a long pass from Oliveira behind the defenders; he went past the goalkeeper Ahmed Mahmoud before slamming the ball into the empty net four minutes before the official time. But the unmarked Maher Jasim surprised the home team three minutes later when he headed home the cross ball sent by Donda from the right flank to secure full points for Dubai-based Al Wasl.
