Al Jazira eliminate defending champions Emirates

Al Jazira eliminated defending champions Emirates after maintaining a 3-2 hard fought win in their quarterfinals match of the President's Cup Competition played this evening at Rashid Stadium in Al Ahli Club. Both teams demonstrated a balanced game with Emirates playing defensively in the first half relying heavily on counter attacks. The winners were the first to hit the back of the net through their Brazilian player Ricardo Olivera who netted the first goal of the match one minute before the break. Nabil Al Dawoodi leveled the score four minutes into the second session. The two teams exerted more efforts afterwards looking for the winner but all their attempts were in vain in spite of the handful of chances that came their way

Al Jazira defender Abdullah Mousa succeeded in putting his side in the lead when he scored the second goal with a perfect header five minutes to time and his teammate Ahmad Juma'a made it 3-1 four minutes later. Emirates pressed hard in the injury time for Nabil Al Dawoodi to reduce the deficit scoring the second goal in the 91st minute to end the encounter with a 3-2 victory for Al Jazira.

On the other hand, Al Shabab completed the golden square following their 3-0 win over Al Dhaid at Sharjah Stadium. Essa Obaid Scored the first goal of the match in the 30th minute and his Brazilian colleague Julio Cesar netted the 2nd and 3rd goal sin yje 78th and 82nd minutes respectively.         

 Both winners of today's matches along with Al Wahda and Al Wasl will meet on 20 and 21 next month to determine the qualifiers to the final game. Al Wahda will face Al Wasl while Al Jazira will take on Al Shabab.
