Al Dhafra brace surprises Cannavaro's Al Ahli

Al Dhafra kicked-off their Etisalat Pro-League campaign this year with a good 2-0 win against Al Ahli in the match which was held between the two teams at Hamdan bin Zayed stadium on Thursday.

Al Dhafra opened the scoring in the first half through their Nigerian forward Abass Lawal (36) before they doubled their advantage through Mohamad Salem with 12 minutes remaining.
Al Ahli nearly took a quick lead after a shot from distance by their Brazilian midfielder André Luciano da Silva but his shot hit the left upright of Al Dhafra goalkeeper Mohamad Hussien.
The pressure of Al Ahli continued in the next minutes but Al Dhafra came back into the game when they were rewarded a spot kick but Abbas Lawal shot was saved by Al Ahli goalkeeper Obaid Al Tawila (17). However, Lawal made up for his miss when he received a long pass from Mohammad Hussien and fired a low shot past Al Tawila to open the scoring and scored the first goal in the league this season (36).

Despite David O'Leary's replacements at the start of the second half, Al Dhafra nearly scored a second goal through Mohamad Salem who had only the goalkeeper to beat but Al Tawila saved the ball to a corner (54).

Al Ahli replied through André Luciano da Silva who had a shot from outside the area (61) but the ball was saved by Al Dhafra goalkeeper Mohamad Hussien who saved another shot from the Brazilian three minutes later.

But it was Al Dhafra who scored in the next minutes as Mohamad Salem received a deflected ball from Al Ahli substitute defender Adel Al Hammadi before scoring with a powerful shot past Al Tawila (78).
