Al Ain defeat Al Wasl 2-0 to take runner up
Al Ain moved one step forward taking second place following their 2-0 deserved win over Al Wasl in their Etisalat Pro League seventh round match played this evening at Al Qattara Stadium. The winners raised their balance to 14 points, two points behind leaders Al Jazira who lost to Al Shabab 2-3 in the same day, while Al Wasl dropped to fifth spot with 11 points.
It was clear from the very beginning that Al Ain were insisting to snatch the three points especially they faced their opponents at their home ground in front of a big mass of spectators who cheered up the team's players through the entire 90 minutes. It took Al Ain only 11 minutes before they take the lead through Asamoah Gyan off a penalty kick. The Argentinean striker Scocco received a long pass inside the six yard area, he tried to control the ball but he was fouled by Tariq Hassan inside the box and the referee Hamad Al Sheikh pointed for a penalty. Asamoah did not make a mistake when he drove the ball into the left hand side of Al Wasl custodian Majid Naser giving the home team a 1-0 lead.
The two teams made every bit of work in the second half looking for more goals, but Al Ain were the better side after creating a number of scoring chances while Al Wasl failed to build up any dangerous attacks. Scocco made things difficult for the visiting team when he capitalized on a perfect pass from midfielder Hilal Saeed to send it with a first time shot into the far left hand corner in the 38th minute to end the first session with a 2-0 lead.
The winners continued their domination of the match after the break, creating a number of chances but they failed to score. Al Wasl also exerted good efforts and made some dangerous attempts but could not find the back of the net despite of the changes made by their Argentinean Football legend Maradona.
