Al Ain defeat Al Wasl 1-0 to jump to second position
Al Ain jumped to second position with 10 points in their Etisalat Cup Group "A" following their 1-0 win over Al Wasl in the match held tonight at Qattara Stadium, while Al Wasl are taking 4th spot with 9 points
Yasir Al Gahtani from Saudi Arabia scored the lone goal of the match in the 30th minute. Both teams finished the game with 10 players after the referee Amar Al Junaibi gave Al Ain defender Musalam Fayez a straight red card in the 22nd minute for rough play against Donda and also showed the red card to Al Wasl player Edson Puch in the 62nd minute as well as sending out Al Ain Romanian coach Cosmin in the 33rd minute and booking seven players from both teams.
But in spite of playing with 10 players, Al Ain took the lead 8 minutes after their defender was shown the red card when Yasir Al Gahtani received a long pass behind the defenders, faced the goalkeeper and slammed the ball home.
The winners lost the efforts of their defender Ismail Ahmed who was injured one minute before the breather and was immediately taken to the hospital for medical test and Rami Yaslam was brought in to replace him.
Al Wasl started the second half with strong performance to threaten Al Ain goalie with two dangerous shots from Essa Ali and Abdullah Abdul Rahman for Waleed Salim to save brilliantly.
Mohammad Malalla, who replaced Yasir Al Gahtani, came close to score the second goal in the 74th minute with a header and Al Ain keeper Waleed Salim deprived Donda from leveling the score when he deflected his volley to a corner in the 86th minute. The referee added 6 minutes as injury time but the result remained 1-0 for Al Ain.
