Al Ain humiliate Al Wasl with a 5-0 win to jump to second place
Al Ain humiliated the visiting team Al Wasl with a deserved 5-0 win in the Etisalat Pro League sixth round game held this evening at Tahnoun bin Mohammed Stadium in Qattara to jump to second position with 13 points while Al Wasl are in 8th place with 9 points.
The hosts started the match with a strong display and both Omar Abdulrahaman of Al Ain and Mohammed Jamal of Al Wasl tried to score in the 7th and 16th minutes respectively but they failed. But Omar came later on to give Al Ain the lead in the 21st minute with a lovely lob over the advancing keeper Ahmed Mahmoud when he received a cross ball from the French striker Ekoko to round up a defender and hooked the ball into the net. Egyptian attacker Mahmoud Shekabala of Al Wasl tried to level the scores off a flag kick but his volley hit the top of the cross bar. Al Ain’s defender Ismail Ahmad doubled the team’s advantage in the 32nd minute off a strong header. The Australian Alex Brusque made it 3-0 with a nice header in the second minute of the additional time.
Al Ain continued their domination of the game after the interval and the referee awarded them a penalty when their midfielder Hilal Saeed was brought down inside the six yard area. The Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan converted the ball into the net for the 4th goal and scored the fifth in the 75th minute to secure a 5-0 win for the home team.
On the other hand, Al Ahli and their city rivals Dubai shared the points of their game played at Rashid Stadium in Al Ahli Club. Al Ahli have collected 11 points taking 5th place while Dubai are 7th with nine points. Abdul Aziz Haikal scored for Al Ahli in the 34th minute and Australian Richard Porta levelled the result for Dubai in the 63rd minute.
