A rewarding first-half season finale to the yellow emperors
The series of unfortunate events and the consecutive defeats Al Wasl had to face for quite a time came to an end tonight where the yellow emperors snatched a precious 2-1 victory against their local rivals Al Ahli in the encounter that took place this evening at Rashid Stadium within the first-half season finale of the Etisalat Pro League competition.
The long awaited victory brought back hope and joy to the hearts of the yellow fans and the smile on the face of the Argentinian legendary Maradona who was about to settle with the tie just to escape the defeat jeopardy. The performance of both teams was not at its best but what matters the most eventually is the rewarding three points. The first half of the match was not very promising until the 38th minute when Grafite scored the match first goal for the red musketeers.
It was the penalty in the second half that gifted the visitors the equalizer netted through the Argentinian Donda in the 78th minute, and then it was the Uruguayan Olivera who scored the most anticipated rewarding goal in the 84th minute.
With 15 points Al Wasl switch positions with their local counterparts and move a step ahead to the 6th place on the Pro League standings, while Al Ahli with 14 points step back to the 7th.
