Al Ahli sign midfielders Hugo Viana and Humaid Abbas

Al Ahli have announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Hugo Viana on a two-year deal. The 30-year-old was selected by Al Ahli due to his extensive experience of playing at the top level in Europe plus his great passing accuracy and ability to score goals from midfield, and signed his contract in the presence of Mr. Ahmed Khalifa Hammad, Executive Director of Al Ahli, and Mr. Roy Aitken, Al Ahli’s Director of Football.

Viana began his career at Sporting Clube de Portugal, where he won the Young European Footballer of the Year Award before earning a move to the English Premier League with Newcastle United. Viana played under current Al Ahli head coach Quique Flores at Valencia before heading out on loan spells to Osasuna and Braga, making his move back to Portugal permanent in 2010. Viana has been capped 29 times for the senior Portugal national team.

Al Ahli have also completed the transfer of Emirati midfielder Humaid Abdulla Abbas from Al Nasr. The 25-year-old moves to the Rashid Stadium on a 3-year contract, having spent his entire career to date with Al Nasr.
