Al Ahli and Al Dhafra continue their campaign in Gulf Clubs Competition
Al Dhafra will take on Al Arabi of Qatar in their third round game in the Gulf Clubs Competition on Tuesday, April 19 at Hamdan Bin Zayed Stadium in the Western Region at 5pm. Al Dhafra are currently in second position in Group B following their 6-1 victory over Saham of Oman and a loss to group leaders Al Arabi by a single goal in their away encounter. The hosts need to win tomorrow to strengthen their chances of qualifying to the quarterfinals which will include two teams from each of the four competing groups. The visiting team arrived to UAE yesterday without many of their key players. Their Brazilian coach Shamoska said that he has given a rest to a number of his players and he will field the reserve team in the match against Al Dhafra.
In the other match, Al Ahli will host Al Arabi of Kuwait in their last preliminary stage game on Wednesday, April 20 at Rashid Stadium at 7pm. Al Ahli needs only one point to lead the Group, which has become a two-horse race after the third team Al Ahli of Bahrain withdrew from the competition in the second week. The UAE side is currently leading the group with a balance of three points after defeating Al Arabi 2-1 in their opening game. Three of Al Ahli's players, Faisal Khalil, Ahmad Khamis and Abdul Aziz Haikal are likely to miss the match due to injury.
