Al Ahli, Al Shabab and Al Dhafra collect full mark
Al Ahli, Al Shabab and Al Dhafra have made positive results in the Club GCC Champions League and Cup Competition after collecting full mark in the second round of the regional event played this week.
Al Ahli are sitting on top of the ladder with six points after defeating Al Arabi of Kuwait in their opening encounter with a 2-1 win, but they did not play their second game due to the pull out of their Bahraini counterpart Al Ahli who decided to withdraw 24 hours from their arrival to Dubai last Monday. Their match was scheduled on Tuesday March 15 and the visitors conducted their first session normally before the head of the delegation informed the match's commissioner Mohammed Al Mosawi from Sultanate of Oman with their sudden decision without disclosing the convincing reasons behind pulling out. The Bahrain-based GCC Football Organizing Committee will take a decision in their forthcoming meeting.
Debutant Al Shabab also came from Kuwait with three valuable points following their hard-fought win over hosts Al Salmiyah with a solitary goal at Thamer Stadium on last Tuesday. The Chilean dynamic player Carlos Villanueva netted the all-important goal of the game seven minutes into the second session off a penalty kick. Al Shabab and Al Refah of Bahrain have collected the same balance of points after both overcame Al Salmiyah who are staying at the bottom of the table and they are yet to open their score. Al Shabab's Midfielder Hassan Ibrahim will not take part in his team's next encounter against Al Refah after given marching orders in his team's opening match.
Al Dhafra compensated for their 1-0 loss of their away opening tie against Al Arabi of Qatar, to shine in their second game when they humiliated lowly Saham of Oman 6-1 at Hamdan Bin Zayed Stadium on Tuesday this week to strengthen their hopes to go further and Qualify to the second stage as two teams from each of the four groups will move into the quarterfinals phase.
