Ajman 0-0 Al Shabab: Cup holders draw blank

Current Cup holders Ajman were held to a 0-0 draw by Al Shabab in Round Two of the UAE League Cup competition, in a match played on Sunday night at the Rashid bin Saeed Stadium. The result means Ajman are unbeaten in their first two Cup games with four points in Group B, whilst Marcos Paqueta’s team registered their first point in the competition following an opening round defeat by Al Wasl.

Ajman started the brighter of the two sides but were unable to muster any meaningful shots on target during the opening stages. In fact it was the visitors Al Shabab who tried their luck with a number of efforts from distance, but nothing was enough to trouble Ajman goalkeeper Ali Mesmari. The most noteworthy chance of the first half fell to Ajman’s Mubarak Salem, who worked Al Shabab’s ‘keeper Ismail Rabee, but it was an easy save for him to make and the sides remained level at half time. The hosts continued to dominate possession in the second half but couldn’t make their dominance count by finding the target, and the game ended in stalemate.
