Al Wasl beat Ajman 2-0 to jump to second position provisionally
Al Wasl jumped to second place of the Etisalat Pro – League provisionally with 8 points, two points behind leaders Al Nasr, after beating Ajman 2-1 in the third match of the fourth round first day played this evening at Rashid bin Saeed Stadium in Ajman.
Against the run of play, Essa Ali found the back of the net off Al Wasl’s first attempt in the game when he received a perfect pass on the right flank, rounded up two defenders before sending a strong left footer into the net only four minutes into the encounter. The two sides failed to produce a convincing display as most of their work was concentrated on the midfield zone. The few opportunities they created were very weak and they defenders spoiled all of them with great confidence. Ajman looked the better side after dominating most parts of the game but could not benefit from all the chances they created in front of the mouth of the goal. Rashid Essa was put clear in the 26th minute with only the goalkeeper to beat but he sent the ball into the hands of Ajman’s keeper. The real chance for Ajman before the break was in the 39th minute when the hapless Founeke Sy jumped high inside the six yard area but his header just past near the upright. The two teams tried to add more goals in the remaining minutes of the first half but they failed.
The situation remained the same after the breather among some weak attempts from both sides that missed the target. Al Wasl made some good efforts looking for the second goal and Ajman players struggled hard to come back to the match and score the equalizer but they lost all the chances. AL Wasl defense was suffering organizing problems which were not exploited by their opponents and among the continuous attempts from both sides; Mahmoud Shekabala received the ball out of the box, moved forward before launching a strong shot into the right hand side making it 2-0 in the 79th minute. Al Wasl dominated the last minutes of the game but could not score to come up with two goals and three points.
