Pro League Committee and Abu Dhabi Sports Channel agree broadcast subscription deal

Following extensive consultations with host broadcast partners Abu Dhabi Sports Channels, the Pro League Committee, organising body of the Arabian Gulf League, has agreed that a subscription element to the broadcasting of the Arabian Gulf League will be introduced for the 2013/14 season. The subscription plan will see two matches per round of the Arabian Gulf League showcased exclusively on Pay-TV; a first for the region, reflecting the growth and development of the League over the past five years of professional football in the UAE.

The move to introduce a subscription element to the broadcasting of the Arabian Gulf League aligns its broadcasting strategy with the most in-demand professional leagues worldwide. Boasting an already-strong television viewership, which has seen audience viewing figures increase year-on-year, the introduction of a subscription element to the broadcasting of the Arabian Gulf League will continue to enhance the standard of production and broadcast. Viewers will be able to enjoy the two encrypted matches per round in High Definition with Dolby Digital surround sound for the first time, together with exclusive game analysis from the studio and reports from leading on-the-ground correspondents to provide extensive coverage and a high quality sports viewing experience.

Speaking about the decision to pilot a subscription element to the broadcasting of the Arabian Gulf League for the 2013/14 season, Colin Smith, CEO of the Pro League Committee, said: “Together with our host broadcast partners Abu Dhabi Sports Channels and also with Dubai Sports Channels, we decided that the introduction of a subscription element to the broadcasting of our League would be a very positive step to take for the new season. By encrypting two of the seven matches per round on Pay-TV, we intend to drive greater stadium attendances, and over the longer term, the subscription element should also facilitate increased investment in the League.”
