Hamburg beat Al Wasl

SV Hamburg of Germany were crowned champions of the Dubai Sport Channel Cup following their 3-2 win over hosts Al Wasl in the match played at Zabeel Stadium on Tuesday, January 4.  The first session ended 2-1 up for the visitors. Al Wasl leveled the result in the second half, but in an exciting finish to the match Hamburg scored the winner in the last minute of injury time thanks to a severe blunder by Al Wasl.

SV Hamburg's Jose Guerrero was the first to hit the back of the net with a brilliant header only seven minutes into the first half when he capitalized off his Brazilian teammate Jose Ze Roberto's cross ball from the right flank. Van Nistlerooy came to make it 2-0 in the 24th minute off a penalty when he was fouled by Mohammad Al Shaiba inside the box. The local team exerted more efforts afterwards and their attempts yielded their first goal through Mohammad Omar four minutes later.

The hosts, who had the help of Al Wahda's Fahad Masoud and Bani Yas' Fawzi Basheer, pulled one back when Mahir Jasim benefited from an error committed by the German defense to send a shot that rebounded off the goalkeeper's hands into the net. At the time the encounter was heading for shootout penalties, Al Wasl's defense made  an error which allowed Tunisian player Ben Hadhira to slam the ball home for Hamburg, dashing Al Wasl's hopes and securing a 3-2 win for the visitors.
