Sultan Al Qasimi wins UAE 2010 Sports Personality Award

Under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Office and Dubai Sports Council, the sponsor of the prestigious Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Creative Sports Award, the ceremony for honoring the winners of the second edition was held on Thursday morning at the Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa in Dubai. His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai attended the ceremony and gave away the medals and certificates to the winners.

The ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Emirates Group; Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Khalid Al Nahyan; Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development; Sheikh Marwan Bin Rashid Al Muala, Chairman of the Emirates Motor Sports Federation; Ibrahim Abdul Malik Secretary-General of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare; Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Deputy Chairman of Dubai Sports Council and a number of senior officials and top local and Arab sports dignitaries.

His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, won the UAE sports personality award for the year 2010 for his great role and continuous support for sports and culture sectors, ideas and outstanding directives in developing sports.. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented the award to Sheikh Essam Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council, on behalf of Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.

In a short speech delivered at the outset of the ceremony, Ahmed Al Sharif, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council spoke about the importance of the award in encouraging the Arab sportsmen towards more creativity. He thanked the winners wishing the Arab sports more success.  Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, who was responsible for Qatar's file for the World Cup Football 2022, bagged  the Arab sports personality  for his contribution towards Qatar's big success.and Sheikha Naima Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah won the Arab woman sport personality for her pioneer role in the development of women's sports.

Among the 18 awarded Athletes, Administrators and institutions were Al Ain Sports Club; Ahmed Khalil, the best local football player; Lebanon's Tony Khoury, member of the International Olympic Committee for his contribution towards the improvement of international sports; Syrian swimmer Firas Muala; Egyptian Olympic Committee; Somalian Jami Aden as the best Arab athletes coach; Sudanese Athletics Union as the best Arab corporation.

Similar awards also went to Jordanian gymnast Ahmad Mohammad Al Asy as the best Arab sportsman; Yahya Al Hammadi Ju-Jitsu champion as best local sportsman; the UAE bowling as  the best local National team; Ali Hamad (football referee). Younis Jad Blind Moroccan was given the award for his special achievements in light of major humanitarian challenges;. Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Qatar National Olympic Committee won a joint award for their contributions to the enrichment of sports along with Al Khaleej daily sports supplement for their coverage in sports events.
