Al Wasl beat Al Shabab 2-1 to remain on top of group "B"

Al Wasl continued their successful march to top the standings of group "B" with 15 points following their deserved 2-1 win in the game played tonight at the winners' pitch in Week 8 in the Etisalat Cup Competition. This victory helps Al Wasl to keep their hopes alive to qualify to the semifinal phase. The losers also still have a good chance to secure themselves a berth in the golden square as they are currently classified as runners-up with 12 points. Brazilian player Olivera was the first to find the net scoring the lone goal of the first session after 30 minutes giving his side an early lead. Both teams made good efforts after the break for the hosts' team player Mohammed Jamal to add to the woes of the visitors when he drove the ball home to make it 2-0 nine minutes into the second half. But Al Shabab did not lose hope as they recovered quickly to pull one back through Essa Mohammed six minutes later. The two squads failed to add more goals in the last 30 minutes to end the game with a 2-1 for the hosts.

Abu Dhabi-based Al Jazira, added one point to their balance when they were held to a goalless draw by hosts Al Ahli who were already out of contention after collecting only five points by the end of this week. The two teams could not benefit off the handful of chances that came their way through 90 minutes.   Al Jazira still have a chance to proceed forward to the best qualifying four teams, but this depends to great extent on the results of their competitors Al Shabab, Kalba and Sharjah.

In the concluding encounter of the day, Sharjah have collected more three valuable points after defeating Kalba 3-2 to move forward to the 4th position with 10 points, one behind losers Kalba who are in the third place with 11 points. Lazarti scored for the home team after nine minutes from the word go to end the first half with a 1-0 win. But Yasir Karama leveled the score 7 minutes into the second session. Marcelo gave the winners the lead after adding the second goal in the 59th minute before Simon made it 2-2 one minute to time. At the time the match was heading towards a draw, Essam Al Mansouri surprised the visiting squad when he netted the winner in the 92nd minute to secure a 3-2 victory for his side.
