Pachuca beat Al Wahda on penalty shootout to take 5th position
Pachuca of Mexico came from behind to force Abu Dhabi based Al Wahda to a 2-2 draw in the original time of their match played this evening at Zayed Sports City before resorting to the shootout penalties to maintain a 4-2 victory that help them to capture the fifth birth in the FIFA Club World Cup. Al Wahda, who defeated Hekari from New Guinea 3-0 in the opener on Wednesday December 8 , came to lose their chance to the semifinal following their 1-4 loss to Asian club champions Seongnam from South Korea in the quarterfinal encounter played on last Saturday December 11th at Zayed Sports City. The losers are currently classified in the sixth place with alone win and two defeats.
Ismaeil Mattar opened the score for the home team giving them the lead one minute before the break off a cross pass by his teammate Mahmoud Khamis from the left flank. Edgar Benitez was to level the result but he failed to slam the ball home off a penalty in the 73rd minute. Mahmoud came to make it 2-0 in the 76th minute. The visiting team made good attempts and their efforts yielded two goals through Dairo Citanich who netted both goals in the 82nd and 86th minutes to take the game to the penalty shootout. Al Wahda played the last 17 minutes with 10 players after their defender Hamdan Al Kamali was given marching orders in the 73rd minute. Hamdan will not take part with his team in two UFL matches according to the FIFA Club World Cup rules.Pachuca scored all four penalty kicks while Al Wahda squandered two through Abdul Rahim Juma'a and Diyara and scored twice through Hugo and Basheir Saeed.
