The UAE and Oman add the second point in GCC Tournament
Both the UAE and Oman football teams added another point to raise their tally to two points each following their goalless draw in the match played today afternoon November 26th at 22 May stadium in Aden in the 2nd round of the GCC tournament currently organized in Yemen . They kept their hopes alive to qualify to the semifinal, but this achievement depends mainly on the outcome of their 3rd and last game as UAE squad will face Bahrain and Oman will meet Iraq the other two teams in the second group.
Mahir Jasim was the first to give the UAE team an early lead when he received a perfect long pass from midfielder Subait Khatir inside the box, but he failed to score due to lack of concentration. The match was marred by poor display through all the time and the players could not create dangerous chances. Both Saeed Al Kas and substitute Ismail Al Hamadi of UAE squandered two opportunities in the 56th and 67th respectively. Fawzi Basheir of Oman also came close to score but his close-range header was saved brilliantly by UAE goalie Majid Nasr.
In the second game, Iraq have raised their tally to four points following their 3-2 win over Bahrain who have collected only one point from two matches. The two teams played a strong match and demonstrated the best performance in the tournament so far. Ala Abdul Zahra scored for Iraq in the 24th minute and Fawzi Aesh netted the equalizer one minute before the break to end the first half with a 1-1 draw. Abdul Zahra added the second goal in the 57th minute and his teammate Hawar Mulla scored the third off a penalty when Younis Mahmoud was brought down by a defender inside the box in the 89th minute before Ismail Abdulatif pulled one back for Oman in the 96th minute also off a penalty kick to make it 3-2 .
